This Grade 1 reading textbook is part of the “Le nouvel Arc-en-ciel” collection. The latter is based on the mixed reading method. Starting with a global approach, letters and syllables are then combined to form new words.

The “Le nouvel Arc-en-ciel” collection for Grade 1 is based on the following methodological principles:

• Oral comprehension and expression: the many exercises encourage children to express themselves orally.
• An abundance of illustrations: attractive and colorful images strengthen comprehension and encourage oral expression.
• Children’s active participation: interactive activities stimulate children’s interest and engagement.
• Regular assessments: these pages allow for tracking of children’s progress.

The “Le nouvel Arc-en-ciel” collection for Grade 1 is a comprehensive method for learning French. It comprises the following four components: a reading textbook, two exercise workbooks, and a writing copybook. This collection also includes 10 storybooks.

Grade 1 Reading Textbook

This “Le nouvel Arc-en-ciel” reading textbook includes 10 themes, divided into 20 lessons. It provides, in Lessons 1 to 13, a comprehensive review of what has been learned in KG3. Each theme is divided into three parts:

1. First, several pages are dedicated to oral expression. They extend prior oral learning, particularly that acquired through the stories that serve as motivation and an introduction to the theme.
2. Next are pages devoted to reading lessons, with the objective of learning the French graphemes.
3. Finally, review pages assess the learning objectives.

This textbook also includes song and rhyme lyrics, as well as materials promoting social awareness..

Finally, a QR code is printed on the first page of the textbook. Children can thus listen to:

• The storybooks with sound effects.
• The songs and rhymes included in the book.
