The Grade 2 Method Presentation

This Grade 2 reading textbook is part of the “La Boîte aux Lettres” collection. 

“La Boîte aux Lettres” for Grade 2 is a comprehensive method for learning French. It builds on the methods developed in previous grades. The spirit, content, and pedagogical practices are thus reviewed and extended. Our teaching methods emphasize oral expression, which forms the foundation for learning to read and write.

The “La Boîte aux Lettres” collection for Grade 2 is based on the following methodological principles:

• Priority given to oral expression through a variety of structured oral activities.
• Short, engaging, and illustrated narrative texts.
• Development of reading skills.
• Introduction to the internal organization of texts.
• Initial exposure to injunctive, prescriptive, and informative texts.
• Illustrative supports placed in the margins of the texts to clarify difficult words.
• Strong emphasis on vocabulary development through varied activities in each unit.
• Exercises that encourage world discovery and reflection.

The “La Boîte aux Lettres” collection for this Grade comprises the following four components: a reading textbook, an expression workbook, a grammar workbook, and a writing copybook.

Grade 2 Reading Textbook

The Grade 2 reading textbook of the “La Boîte aux Lettres” collection is divided into 10 themes. Each theme includes two units. 

A) Each unit presents three activities:

1. Two pages are devoted to oral expression. The activities proposed here precede and extend the reading text. 
2. Two other pages presenting a reading text, accompanied by illustrations that clarify difficult words. This section also includes questions and activities.
3. A phonics section allowing for the review of phonemes and graphemes learned in Grade 1.
   

B) Four additional activities are presented alternately:

1. A vocabulary lesson introducing word families, synonyms, homonyms, and more.
2. An injunctive or informative text, followed by a fun or trivia-based activity.
3. An illustration encouraging the reuse of vocabulary and structures related to the theme.
4. A world discovery documentary text.

Also, each theme concludes with a song and poems.

Finally, a QR code is printed on the first page of the textbook. Children can thus listen to:

• Songs with lyrics included in the book.
• Role-play activities.
• Phonics activities.
