This Grade 2 reading textbook is part of the “Arc-en-ciel” collection.

“Arc-en-ciel” for Grade 2 is an extension of our methods from previous grades. The spirit, content, and pedagogical practices are thus reviewed and extended. Our teaching methods emphasize oral expression, which forms the foundation for learning to read and write.

The “Arc-en-ciel” collection for Grade 2 is based on the following methodological principles:

• Priority given to oral expression.
• Short, engaging, and illustrated reading texts, including narrative, informative, injunctive, and descriptive texts.
• Illustrative supports placed in the margins of the texts to explain difficult words.
• Activities that ensure effective learning of oral and written French, while stimulating critical thinking and creativity.
• Motivating and interactive learning tools and materials that engage students in the learning process.

The “Arc-en-ciel” collection for Grade 2 is a comprehensive method for learning French. It comprises the following four components: a reading textbook, an expression workbook, a grammar workbook, and a writing copybook. This collection also includes 9 storybooks.

Grade 2 Reading Textbook

This Grade 2 reading textbook of the “Arc-en-ciel” collection is divided into 9 themes and 27 units (3 units per theme). Every unit provides the following activities:

• One or two pages dedicated to oral expression.
• One or two reading texts, accompanied by a presentation of difficult words, a review of phonemes and graphemes, and comprehension questions. These support understanding, expression, and guide the thinking process.
• An additional text (injunctive, informative, or documentary) that can be integrated into a project or help students better understand the world around them.
• Songs and poems.

Finally, a QR code is printed on the first page of the textbook. Children can thus listen to:

• Stories with text, sound effects, and music.
• Songs and rhymes included in the book.
• Phonics activities.
