Description
French as a Foreign Language – Français Plus 4 Student’s Book
Method Presentation
The Français Plus 4 textbook is the seventh book in the Français Plus collection. It follows directly from the previous levels and aims to prepare students for the DELF Junior A1 and A2 examinations.
The Français Plus collection is a comprehensive method for learning French as a foreign language (FLE) and is intended for students whose first language is not French. The Français Plus 4 book offers an active and dynamic approach to learning spoken and written French.
The book was designed in accordance with the approach recommended by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR, 2000). It provides a progressive program that develops the four core language skills: listening comprehension, spoken expression, reading comprehension, and written expression. In addition, it reinforces knowledge of language structures, general culture, and elements of civilization. The objective is to enable students to communicate both orally and in writing, while preparing them for the DELF Junior A1 and A2 examinations.
The Français Plus 4 textbook follows a progressive learning path and covers approximately 60 to 80 hours of instruction, based on a rhythm of 2 to 3 hours per week. The method includes two components: a student’s book and a workbook.
Français Plus 4 – Student’s Book
The student’s book consists of ten lessons. Each lesson includes:
- A two-page introduction with a large illustration, a detailed vocabulary list, and questions designed to encourage oral expression.
- A listening comprehension activity based on a recorded dialogue, followed by comprehension questions.
- Oral production activities that extend and develop the recorded dialogue.
- A reading comprehension text followed by questions.
- A written production exercise.
- A phonics session to support pronunciation.
- A section including grammar, conjugation, and spelling activities.
In addition, after every two lessons, a review section helps students consolidate the knowledge they have acquired.
At the end of the student’s book, a French–English dictionary is provided to facilitate the understanding of the basic vocabulary used in each theme.
