This Grade 6 reading textbook is part of the “Arc-en-ciel” collection.
“Arc-en-ciel” for Grade 6 is an extension of our methods from previous grades. The spirit, content, and pedagogical practices are thus reframed and extended. Our teaching methods emphasize oral expression. The latter is indeed the basis for learning to read and write.
The “Arc-en-ciel” collection for Grade 6 is based on the following methodological principles:
- Priority given to oral expression.
- Interesting and illustrated reading texts: narrative, informative, injunctive, and descriptive texts.
- Illustrative supports and definitions in the margin of the texts explain difficult words.
- Linguistic, grammar, general knowledge, and artistic activities ensure effective learning of oral and written French. These activities also stimulate critical thinking and creativity.
- Phonics activities.
- Written expression techniques.
The “Arc-en-ciel” collection for Grade 6 is a comprehensive method for learning French. It comprises the following four components: a reading textbook, two expression workbooks, and a grammar workbook.
Grade 6 Reading Textbook
This Grade 6 reading textbook of the “Arc-en-ciel” collection is divided into 9 themes and 25 units (2-3 units per theme). Every unit provides the following activities:
- One or two pages encourage oral expression and present the vocabulary of the theme.
- A reading text and comprehension questions that encourage expression and reflexion.
- Phonics and a review of phonemes and graphemes.
- A presentation of composition processes and figures of speech.
- Other texts (injunctive, informative, or documentary) that can be integrated into a project to be carried out, or can help students better understand our world.
- Poems.
- A lesson on written expression techniques.
