Grade 3 Reading Textbook – La Boîte aux Lettres
The Grade 3 Method Presentation
This Grade 3 reading textbook is part of the “La Boîte aux Lettres” collection.
“La Boîte aux Lettres” for Grade 3 is a comprehensive method for learning French. It builds on the methods developed in previous grades. As a result, the spirit, content, and pedagogical practices are reframed and extended. Our teaching methods emphasize oral expression, which forms the foundation for learning to read and write.
The “La Boîte aux Lettres” collection for Grade 3 is based on the following methodological principles:
- Priority given to oral expression.
- Class projects to enable group work, interdisciplinarity, open-mindedness, and collaboration.
- Short, interesting, and illustrated narrative texts.
- Improvement of reading skills.
- Initiation to the internal organization of the texts.
- An introduction to injunctive-prescriptive and informative texts.
- Illustrative supports in the margin of the texts explain difficult words.
- Strong emphasis on vocabulary development in every unit.
The “La Boîte aux Lettres” collection for Grade 3 comprises the following four components: a reading textbook, an expression workbook, a grammar workbook, and a writing copybook.
Grade 3 Reading Textbook
This Grade 3 reading textbook of the “La Boîte aux Lettres” collection is divided into 10 themes. Each theme includes two units.
A) Each unit presents three activities:
- First, two pages are devoted to oral expression. The activities proposed here both precede and extend the reading text. In this section, you will find:
- An illustration that prepares students for reading, with questions.
- Pictures to help understand words and sentence structures.
- Two role-play activities (dialogues).
- Next, two other pages present a reading text. This text is accompanied by drawings that illustrate difficult words, as well as comprehension questions. In addition, students will find activities that improve reading aloud and text organization skills.
- Finally, a phonics section allows students to review the phonemes and graphemes learned in previous grades.
B) Four other activities are presented alternately:
- A vocabulary lesson introducing words of the same family, synonyms, homonyms, etc.
- An injunctive or informative text. A fun or trivia activity also follows this text.
- An illustration that encourages the reuse of the words and structures of the theme.
- A world discovery documentary text.
Also, each theme of the reading textbook concludes with a song and poems.
Finally, a QR code is printed on the first page of the textbook. Children can thus listen to:
- Phonics.
- Role-play activities.
- The songs with lyrics that can be found in the book.
