Grade 5 Method Presentation

This Grade 5 reading textbook is part of the “Tremplin vers le français” collection.

The “Tremplin vers le français” collection is a comprehensive method of learning French. It covers all Elementary classes. This method is an extension of our methods for Nursery Classes. The spirit, content, and pedagogical practices learned in Kindergarten are reframed and extended.

“Tremplin vers le français” for Grade 5 is based on the following methodological principles:

• Priority given to oral communication through many varied sessions thus dedicated to oral expression.
• Class projects to enable group work, interdisciplinarity, open-mindedness, and collaboration for various activities.
• Short, interesting, and complete narrative texts perfectly adapted to the linguistic and psychological level of the students. 
• Informative and injunctive texts accompanied by questions to introduce the typology of texts. 
• Comprehensive lessons and exercises on learning the characteristics of different types of texts. They also perfect the children’s skills in written expression. 
• An improvement in reading quality.
• Illustrative supports in the margin of the texts explain difficult words.
• Vocabulary development through various lessons.

The “Tremplin vers le français” collection for Grade 5 comprises the following three components: a reading textbook and two exercise workbooks.

Grade 5 Reading Textbook

This reading textbook from the “Tremplin vers le français” collection is divided into 6 units, each separated into 2 themes. Each unit offers 5 weeks of work: 4 weeks of learning and 1 week of consolidation found in the exercise workbook.

Weeks 16 and 32 constitute the mid-year and end-of-year assessment weeks. 

Each theme is divided into 2 weeks of work:

The first week includes:

• A cover page.
• A reading text on two pages and illustrations to explain difficult words. This text is usually followed by questions.
• Oral expression exercises.
• A vocabulary lesson. 
• A grammar lesson.

The second week includes: 

• A second text on two pages.
• Oral expression activities. 
• A lesson to introduce the writing processes of different texts (narrative, descriptive, injunctive, e-mail, personal letter)
• A poem.
• A conjugation lesson. 
• Another spelling lesson followed by a dictation proposition.
• A documentary text accompanied by questions and activities.

Finally, the first page of each textbook includes a QR code. Children can thus listen to:

• Oral expression activities.
• Role-play activities.
