Description
French as a Foreign Language – Français Plus 5 Student’s Book
Method Presentation
The Français Plus 5 textbook is the eighth book in the Français Plus collection. It follows directly from the previous levels and aims to prepare students for the DELF Junior A1 and A2 examinations.
The Français Plus collection is a comprehensive method for learning French as a foreign language (FLE) and is intended for students whose first language is not French. The Français Plus 5 book offers an active and dynamic approach to learning spoken and written French.
This book was designed according to the approach recommended by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR, 2000). It provides a progressive program that develops the four core language skills: listening comprehension, spoken expression, reading comprehension, and written expression. In addition, it reinforces knowledge of language structure, general culture, and aspects of civilization. The aim is to enable students to communicate both orally and in writing, while preparing them for the DELF Junior A1 and A2 examinations.
The Français Plus 5 textbook follows a progressive learning structure and covers approximately 60 to 80 hours of instruction, based on a rhythm of 2 to 3 hours per week. The method includes two components: a student’s book and an activity workbook.
Français Plus 5 – Student’s Book
The student’s book consists of ten lessons. Each lesson includes:
- First, a two-page introduction presents a large illustration, a detailed vocabulary list, and questions that encourage oral expression.
- Next, a listening comprehension section is based on a recorded dialogue and is followed by questions that help students check their understanding.
- Then, oral production activities allow learners to extend and practice the dialogue presented earlier.
- After that, students work on a reading comprehension text, which is also followed by questions to verify understanding.
- In addition, a written production exercise gives students the opportunity to express ideas in writing.
- Furthermore, a phonics session helps reinforce correct pronunciation.
- Finally, a section provides grammar, conjugation, and spelling activities, allowing students to consolidate their knowledge of the language.
Moreover, after every two lessons, a review section enables students to revise and consolidate the knowledge they have acquired.
At the end of the student’s book, a French–English dictionary is included. This section helps students better understand the basic vocabulary used in each theme, and therefore supports independent learning.
