This Grade 1 reading textbook is part of the “La Boîte aux Lettres” collection.

“La Boîte aux Lettres” for Grade 1 is based on the syllabic reading method, which allows for a clear and logical progression, from the simplest to the more complex. Children first learn to read individual letters, then syllables, words, sentences, and complete texts.

The method applied in this Grade 1 reading textbook develops our KG1, KG2, and KG3 methods. The spirit, content, and pedagogical practices are thus reviewed and extended. Our teaching methods emphasize oral expression, which forms the foundation for learning to read and write.

The “La Boîte aux Lettres” collection for Grade 1 is based on the following methodological principles:

• Priority given to oral comprehension and expression through numerous exercises that encourage children to speak.
• An abundance of illustrations: attractive and colorful images strengthen comprehension and encourage oral expression.
• Children’s active participation: interactive activities stimulate children’s interest and engagement.
• Learning the shapes and sounds of letters to introduce reading.
• Regular assessments that allow for tracking children’s progress.

The “La Boîte aux Lettres” collection for Grade 1 is a comprehensive method for learning French. It comprises the following four components: a reading textbook, two exercise workbooks, and a writing copybook. This collection also includes 10 storybooks.

Grade 1 Reading Textbook

This reading textbook of the “La Boîte aux Lettres” collection for Grade 1 is divided into ten themes and 20 lessons. Lessons 1 to 16 provide a comprehensive review of KG3 learning and should therefore be completed at a faster pace. Each theme includes two parts:

1. Two pages are devoted to oral expression. They build on previous learning, particularly those acquired through the stories that serve as an introduction to the theme.
2. Two other pages include reading lessons.

The reading textbook also includes song and rhyme lyrics, as well as general knowledge pages.

Finally, a QR code is printed on the first page of the textbook. Children can thus listen to:

• Songs with lyrics included in the book.
• Storybooks.
• Role-play activities.
