The Grade 1 Method Presentation
The reading textbook of the “La Boîte aux Lettres” collection for Grade 1 is based on the syllabic reading method. It provides a simple and logical progression of phonemes and graphemes. From the simplest to the most complex, we start from the letter to the syllable, the word, the sentence, and the text.
This book is an extension of our methods for KG2 and KG3. The spirit, content and pedagogical practices are reframed and extended. Our teaching methods emphasize oral expression. The latter is indeed the basis for learning to read and write.
“La Boîte aux Lettres” for Grade 1 is a comprehensive method for learning French. It comprises the following components: a reading textbook, two exercise workbooks and a writing copybook. Additionally, this method comes with 10 storybooks.
Reading Textbook
The reading textbook of the “La Boîte aux Lettres” collection for Grade 1 comprises ten themes. Each theme is divided into two parts: first, two double-pages are devoted to oral expression. They build on previous learnings, particularly through the storybooks that serve as an introduction to the theme. A further two double-pages are devoted to reading lessons.
The reading textbook provides, in lessons 1 to 16, a comprehensive review of what has been learned in KG3. Therefore, these lessons should be tackled quickly.
The textbook also includes assessment pages, song and rhyme lyrics, and “cultural” pages that extend children’s horizons.
Finally, a QR code is integrated into the reading book. Children can therefore listen to the following:
- Songs and rhymes whose lyrics can be found in the book.
- Storybooks.
- Role-playing activities.
